Physical Planning for Palestinian Rural Communities: This study, which was based on an integrated rural development planning approach, assessed the possibilities and requirements for introducing a nationwide rural district and sub-district planning and development system, including guidelines for rural planning and management and initiation of a learning-by-doing process through pilot projects. The study was initiated in the Jenin and Al-Khalil districts of Palestine’s inland region, but was then extended to cover all districts of the inland region as well as the coastal region. The study team assessed the limitations and potentials for socio-economic development in Palestine’s rural areas including about 439 rural communities. The recommendations of the study were being implemented through a pilot project in the Jenin district. A major output of the study was a wide-based information and data system covering all vital social and economic sectors with emphasis on institutional and physical infrastructure.
